I am currently a graduate student in the University of Iowa's Playwright's Workshop, but I'm in Chicago for the summer and interested in tutoring opportunities. My passions are writing (creatively and analytically) and teaching. While most of my experience is teaching at the collegiate level, I have also worked with high school and middle school students as well.

Educational Background: Prior to pursuing my current degree, I received a Masters in Literature from the University of Chicago. My undergrad degree is from Boston College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa and majored in English and Theater Arts.

Professional Background: I've worked in the editorial departments for both Cengage Heinle ESL Publishing and also at the University of Chicago Press. Since going back to school, I've continued to work for Cengage as a freelance writer and editor.

Area of Specialty: Obviously from my background, my strongest teaching areas are English literature, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills. I've tutored writing and reading regularly since graduating college. I also am available to tutor in theatre arts and playwriting. If you've ever had an interest in developing a script or learning more about the magical world of theatre, I'm happy to discuss these areas as well. My award-winning plays have been produced around the country.

Teaching Experience: I am currently a graduate teacher at the University of Iowa, and love teaching. This past year I taught History of Theatre and Playwriting I. In History of Theatre, I required my students to write a well-developed, compelling, and argumentative research paper. I helped walk them through all aspects of the project including researching and note-taking, drafting, revising, editing and how to properly cite resources.

Editing and Proofreading: In addition to tutoring services, I am also available to edit and proofread documents, resumes, college essays, etc.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I tutor basic K-12 English skills including grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction, reading strategies, study skills, and writing.

Theatre

I am currently pursuing my MFA in Playwriting at the University of Iowa's Playwright's Workshop, where I taught playwriting to undergraduate students this past fall. I have also taught playwriting to high school and middle school students at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago and the Theatre Royal in Bath, England. I am currently a working writer, and my plays have been produced around the country. If you would like more information, please let me know, and I would be happy to provide you with a resume and bio.
