I'm a casual and friendly person who takes language and writing seriously. As a university-level instructor of English, I enjoyed working with freshmen who didn't believe they could write, and I preferred my frequent one-on-one conferences, rather than the classroom setting. The conferences allowed shyer students to participate more freely -- to relax, open up, and ask questions. I was also able to form a relationship with the more ambivalent students, or students who had been told all their lives that they were "stupid."
