Hi, my name is Jermaine, and I feel that education is too standardized. I have a Bachelor’s in Political Science, and was always leading group projects and study sessions during my time in college. This background has led me to a point where I feel that I am able to gauge how best to reach specific individuals, so that they reach their potential.
In the group project context, this individual approach helped ensure that the group received the best grade possible. In the tutoring context, I see a student’s performance in the classroom as a direct reflection on my knowledge and abilities, and thus will strive to ensure that each student is ready for any challenge which may arise in that subject.
I believe that while knowledge in many cases is very objective, the attainment of knowledge is very subjective. This belief leads me to a very individualized approach that attempts to relate whatever a student needs to learn into a knowledge base that they already have and/or enjoy.
On top of bringing new knowledge into a construct which the student already understands, this approach has the benefit of allowing a student to see how a single piece of information or single process can be applied to multiple disciplines. And in many cases, this realization of a topic’s usage allows students to gain a greater focus because of the enhanced value of what they are learning.
