I am a passionate educator with diverse experience teaching learners of all ages and with experience outside of the traditional classroom setting. I worked for a leading national tutoring company for 10 years where I taught Reading, Writing, Study Skills, Math (Elementary through basic Algebra), ACT Prep for English, Reading, Writing and Science, and Homework Support for English, Social Studies/History, Science (Earth Science and Environmental Science/Ecology), and Math (Elementary through basic Algebra). I have a BA in English/Secondary Education and an MA in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Sustainable Development and Policy. I strongly believe that all students can excel once they find their own learning styles and when they see the connection of what they are learning to everyday life.
I am what most people would consider a life-long learner. I keep going back to school because I find that there is more that I want to learn. I also enjoy interacting with other students and hearing their perspectives. I believe this makes me a better tutor as I understand where the student is coming from and I know the struggles of juggling school with other commitments.
One size does not fill all when it comes to learning. I like to find my student's learning style and tailor a lesson to fit that style. Each of us learns in different ways. Some are more visual, while others need hands-on learning to be successful. Together we can be creative and find a method that makes learning fun for the individual.
