This is one of my strongest areas. I have 17 years of experience teaching algebra 1 and can teach this subject to students of many different ages and comfort levels.
I am extremely proficient at algebra 2 and enjoy teaching this subject a lot. It's fun to help students who have mastered algebra 1 take it to the next level!
I have passed both the Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP), which is a basic skills test for K-12 teachers and the ILTS Mathematics Content Area exam, which is also geared toward K-12 instruction. I scored greater than 90% proficiency on each test. I have also volunteered in kindergarten and grade school classrooms, assisting with reading and computer literacy instruction. Finally, I hold an active Illinois Substitute Teacher License for K-12.
I spent a number of years in Europe during my childhood and enjoyed many cultural learning experiences pertaining to various historic battles from ancient times through the World Wars, development of modern borders, numerous European rulers, European art, the Cold War, and modern European government. I also enjoy reading non-fiction European history as a hobby.
I have tutored both junior high and high school students in basic and advanced geometry and scored in the 97th percentile in the Geometric Methods portion of the Illinois Licensure Testing System Mathematics Content exam.
Having worked for several years as a software quality assurance analyst, I am very familiar with HTML. I have also created, maintained, and made custom HTML changes to 5 different websites for personal and professional use.
Reading is my favorite hobby! Although I'm not professionally trained in this area, I am an avid reader of Western classic literature and can offer perspective on plots, authors, and historical significance for numerous well-known stories studied in high school and at the college level.
I have completed a degree in computer science and have used a Macintosh since the mid-1990s to manage business for a freelance illustrator. I am able to install software, troubleshoot network and printer settings, and issue basic commands from the Mac terminal.
I have completed a degree in computer science and have used Microsoft Windows as my primary computer operating system since the mid-1990s. I understand such things as network setting and printer configurations in Microsoft Windows and can install software, remove viruses and handle most troubleshooting independently. I have also handled building-wide Microsoft Windows support to over 20 staff members while working as a webmaster at a university student union.

I have enjoyed classroom teaching experiences at both the university and the community college level for classes ranging in size from 10-30 students. Additionally, I have done face-to-face and online training in a corporate setting for groups of 1-30. I'm very comfortable speaking in front of large groups and know several basic strategies I can share to help others to do the same.
