With each of my students, I focus primarily on their specific needs and their learning styles. I base my lessons on the Illinois Learning Standards and my students' classroom expectations. I have taught many grade levels and excited to add these teaching strategies in my tutoring sessions. I use different styles of activities to get the students to develop math, reading, and writing skills. Designed to fit each of my student's need, visuals, hands on activities, games, and specific learning tools are implemented in each of my lessons.
First, I find it important to understand what my students already know in the subject matter; their prior knowledge is important in how I teach. My students are engaged in what they are learning and connecting new information to their own life; making connections. Secondly, I like to apply specific teaching strategies to their learning style. By combining these two important factors, my students have succeeded in reaching their goals. Finally, I implement assessments, such as homework or an activity to ensure my students are retaining what they learned so they can continue to learn.
In the past seven years, I have aided and tutored students (K-12) in the school and home environment in the subject areas of math, reading, and writing. Specialize in effective strategies for elementary students in all subject areas, as well as ISAT preparation. Experience with middle school and high school Algebra, Geometry, Writing Skills, and ACT preparation with high success rates. I have also worked with students who have special needs or IEPs. I believe every child has the ability to learn if given the right tools and strategies!
