Hello! I am a University of Chicago graduate with a decade's experience tutoring students in English, literature, reading, and test prep.
For the past three years I was an independent contractor with Nurturing Wisdom. I was one of their top English, reading, and writing tutors, and specialized in working with mid to higher level high school students. I tutored over 30 students in English and summer writing programs, helping students develop writing mechanics, enjoy the process, and learn how to showcase their voice. I tutored many students in PSAT, SAT, and ACT verbal sections. All of my ACT students had a minimum of a four-point increase and many of my students scored in the mid-twenties up to a near perfect score. Prior to working with Nurturing Wisdom, I tutored students independently in all these subjects.
I have also worked with Waukegan High School as a tutor and mentor for high-scoring students. I developed and ran an AP Poetry Seminar, tutored students in an accelerated reading program, worked on phonics with ESL students, and guided students in college application and essay writing.
I am formally trained in tutoring methods and techniques, and take a personable, structured approach. I understand each student is an individual and seek to tailor my techniques to their unique learning style. I am passionate about learning and my students find this attitude infectious. I tutor for outcomes, but also seek to teach students the real world utility of what they are studying, be it test prep or writing. Most parents and students have found me personable and professional, and my technique accessible, helpful, and easy to follow.
