I have a Master of Science, with a thesis in Theoretical Astrophysics from DePaul University.
Unlocking the abilities, and teaching to the needs of students is what tutoring and teaching are all about. If you hire me I will bring my experience as a graduate student tutoring undergrads to your home. I will work with you to formulate a study plan which will help the student become the best they can. I will be on call and accessible whenever you need my help.
To paraphrase Richard P. Feynman, a Nobel prize winning physicist: there is no one best way to teach physics that will work for every single student. Teaching this subject by following its historical development will work for some, teaching physics as if it were a consequence of mathematical logic will work for others. Others still will benefit from a Socratic method. All I can do is try to unlock the abilities that a student already has. All I can do is guide them towards the correct way of thinking about physics. I learned that my mission is to teach these students how to think like a physicist about problems.
When it comes to mathematics I try to show students how to approach problems systematically and logically. Once one has learned this skill problems in algebra, calculus, geometry and trigonometry will just make sense. Problems that look like a jumble of symbols will look like the elegant language that is mathematics.
When it comes to other area's of knowledge such as elementary mathematics, and general computer literacy, I will review the basics with your student.
I will teach a student how to approach problems and solve them in a careful systematic way.
I am willing to tutor your student at your home (the most common arrangement), or to meet with them in the library at DePaul's Lincoln Park campus, or possibly even at my home (for which a discount would be negotiated).
Remember if you are not satisfied with my service the first hour is on the house.
