Hey there! I am a people person who excels at teaching and tutoring! I have been doing both for high school students for the past ten years. I can truly appreciate the benefit of tutors because I had a math tutor myself almost every year that I attended high school as well as my first year of college.

As a high school English teacher, I have taken several ACT Prep courses, so I've learned many "tricks of the test" that I would love to share with you! In fact, I wish I had known back in high school what I know now about the test.

I also teach several essay writing courses at both the high school and collegiate levels which have required both APA and MLA Formats.

Finally, I also teach Speech Communications, so I can help you overcome speech anxiety with some simple yet effective techniques.

Let me help you be the best "you" that you can be!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

As a high school English teacher, I have taken several ACT Prep courses, so I've learned many "tricks of the test" that I would love to share with you! In fact, I wish I had known back in high school what I know now about the test.

ACT Reading

The key to doing well on the ACT Reading test is to annotate each passage. Doing so provides a road map to help answer the subsequent questions. It also helps for students to recognize whether or not they are fast or slow readers, and then work some additional strategies that I can offer from there.

English

The key to understanding and writing the English language better is to first become more familiar with grammar and the usage errors that often impair one’s appropriate use of grammar. As an English teacher at both the high school and collegiate levels, I have created several techniques, mnemonic devices, and mini-grammar lessons to unlock the mystery of grammar and writing.

Grammar

Recognizing and correcting grammar issues can certainly be a challenge; however, I have developed several techniques to help students recognize and correct common grammar mistakes such as run-on sentences and usage errors.

Public Speaking

I have taught Speech Communications at the high school level for the past five years, so I can help you overcome speech anxiety with some simple yet effective techniques.

Reading

With over ten years of experience teaching, I have helped many students to become better readers by modeling reading, reviewing phonics, and teaching decoding strategies. I can help your student to improve his or her reading comprehension skills by teaching him or her several reading strategies.

Study Skills

With ten years of experience tutoring struggling and at-risk students, I have developed several study strategies to help students glean the most from their study sessions. I will help students with effective memorization techniques and note-taking tips as well as prioritization, organization, and goal-setting assistance.

Writing

I have been teaching Effective Writing Skills for over ten years at both the secondary level and collegiate level. I can help students to improve their writing skills and feel more comfortable with the writing process in general.
