I am a recent graduate from Northern Illinois University. I have recently received my certificate to teach grades 6 - 12 and eager to start the teaching profession. I am available to tutor students who need help with Middle School Mathematics, Elementary Mathematics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Logic, Probability, Pre-Calculus and ACT or SAT preparation. During my student teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to work with students in all levels (basic, regular, and honors) and I am excellent at helping students at the speed they feel most comfortable with.
I completed my student teaching experience at Kaneland High School in Maple Park, IL. During my student teaching experience, I took over the full load of 2 algebra 1 classes and an algebra 2 class on a 90 minute block schedule for an entire semester and loved it. The thrill of working with many different students and personalities and my drive for student learning kept my classroom structured yet fun and exciting at the same time. My philosophy of teaching is everyone has the ability to learn if they strive for it and meet the teacher halfway. On the teacher's end, it is our responsibility to first build a connection with the student and learn about them as well as have the students learn about the teacher. With this positive connection established, my style of teaching in very conversational as I get students to think about "why this happens?" instead of just "what happens next?" This gets students to think deeply and critically about what they are studying and gets them to truly learn the material. I understand that not every student learns the same way so if a student doesn't understand something, I give them additional examples to work with while explaining something in a different, clear and more relatable way.
During my student teaching experience, I have also had the opportunity to work with students individually after school and in small groups. I have also had experience working with students in a special education algebra 1 classroom. I have been taught how to relate things to students by reputable and award winning teachers and professors and always strive to improve my teaching as well. I am a likeable person so this makes me approachable to students. Being that I am a very self-motivated and driven person, this causes me to never give up on students who struggle with learning something new. From experience, students see and respect this fact and in turn strive to do better themselves and succeed, creating a positive cycle of growth on the student's and my end. I enjoy teaching and think its the best profession in the world. I am excited to continue educating people and making changes in lives.
