Learning a new subject or skill can be very stressful, however, if you are willing to partner with a tutor, you can master anything. Tutoring involves teaching methods tailored to your goals.
I have a masters degree in Counseling and worked as a secretary, grant-writer and case manager prior to grad school. Bottom line: I love to write, proof-read and review presentations with clients to ensure the content is appropriate for the audience. I pay attention to body language - especially as a means of keeping an audience engaged.
Teaching English to pre-teens and adults brings me joy. Writing is a challenge for so many; and, it is very often used as a means of assessing whether a student gains entry into a program. More importantly, for adults, writing is often used to document a problem or convey a message; again, one is often judged by the quality of one's writing. Teaching English as a second language is a serious task. I use pictures, sign-language, audio files to help students speak, read and write. Again, I want my students to be confident writers and speakers, to be taken seriously.
Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint are essential tools for everyone. I have kept current with Microsoft Office because the programs make my life easier! Write letters and reports, generate expense reports and throw a slide prestation together with ease.
In sum, it is essential that a tutor create personalized lessons for the client. Language, visual-aids and the duration of each session are just a few factors that may vary according to the clients' needs. I look forward to working with you.
