Dear students and parents!

Whether someone in the family needs just a little push in the right direction or a longer term guidance, I am offering my help. School can be overwhelming - I know by experience! Among my credentials are MS and PhD degrees in Physics and Civil Engineering. While in college, I have had teaching responsibilities, as well. With so many technical and language exams behind me, I have the confidence to believe that we can work together and overcome any temporary obstacles standing between you and your goals. The student's age is no problem for me - I have tutored school children and adults alike.

While technical topics are my specialty, I can also help younger students build general reading, writing and study skills. As a mother of two children, I know how to find a common language with younger generations.

Are you an adult who wants to re-enter the workforce or change careers? Then let's work together and make sure you take that GED, SAT, or GRE test!

My tutoring system is based on these pillars:
1. I will sit and listen to the goals you have in mind;
2. We will put together a plan - it is crucial that everybody agrees on what is important and how to achieve it;
3. I will be very thorough making sure we follow the plan;
4. Life happens - if the plan needs revision, we will modify it and then stick to the new plan.

And let me finish with my credo: In school and after school, only systematic efforts will bring good results. Believing otherwise is wishful thinking.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Access

I am a software engineer and my line of work involves managing various databases. Access was one of my first databases. I have used it to create manually or through code tables, queries, forms, reports, etc. In the past years my interest has shifted from personal to enterprise databases, but Access is still an active tool in my daily activities.

Python

I am a professional programmer and Python is one of the languages I use quite often in my job. While my scripts are geared toward Geographic Information System applications (backend programming), a considerable part of my code includes input/output operations, flow control, data structures, error handling, functions, classes, etc. All these programming practices are generic enough and I feel I can incorporate them in the study program of any beginner programmer, regardless of his/her specialization.

Russian

I am from Bulgaria, my native language is Bulgarian. However, being a child of a teacher in Russian language, I qualified to be a student in a Russian language elementary and middle school. The teachers, all Russian citizens, taught the whole curriculum in Russian. After graduating from middle school, I transferred to a French language high school, where in turn all subjects were taught in French. Though my career now is in engineering, I am still fluent in Russian (reading, writing, and speaking) and French (mostly reading and writing). In the past I have given on occasion lessons in Russian language to adult students, but not recently.

Visual Basic

I am a professional software developer, employed by a thriving private company, writing in Visual Basic (among many other programming languages) since 1994. My VB programs are designed to work as desktop applications, Access/Excel/Word addins, web services. In the past few years I've been focusing more on web development, but VB is still my preferred language.
