I developed a love for teaching after being appointed as an instructor for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. In addition to teaching Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine for this program for 2 years, I have also taught at Robert Morris University, and Waubonsee Community College.

I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to experience education in a way that relates to them, and provides them with the personal attention needed to succeed. I appreciate the opportunity to be part of this experience!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I was a member of my schools' basketball teams from 6th grade through my senior year in high school. I was also recruited to play at two junior colleges, but chose to accept a scholarship for track and field at a different school.

In addition to participation as a player, I have also coached basketball at the elementary level, and trained basketball players (strength and conditioning coach).

Bodybuilding

I have a Master's Degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. I am currently certified as a Health Fitness Professional through the American College of Sports Medicine. Other certifications/licenses include Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach, Personal Trainer, and Emergency Medical Technician.

Elementary Math

As an elementary teacher, I spend an hour-and-a-half teaching Math every day. I develop lessons that allow students to learn in whole-group, small-group, and independent settings.

Elementary Science

As an elementary school teacher, I teach Science in the classroom every day. Additionally, I have taught Science at the middle school and collegiate levels.

Fitness

I have a Master's Degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. I am currently certified as a Health Fitness Professional through the American College of Sports Medicine. Other certifications/licenses include Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach, Personal Trainer, and Emergency Medical Technician.

Furthermore, I have been employed in the fitness industry since 1998, and have taught fitness education courses at two local colleges.

Football

Though I only played football for 4 years, I have a strong understanding of the mechanics of the sport. As strength and conditioning coach, I have worked with athletes of many different sports (including football), and am confident in my ability to coach/teach the sport.

Nutrition

Nutrition was a crucial topic during my graduate studies in Kinesiology, and I have taught this topic in my classes at Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, Waubonsee Community College, and Robert Morris University.

Physiology

I have a graduate degree in Physiology, and have taught several courses in this field.

Psychology

My undergraduate degree is in Psychology. Though I have not worked in the field of Psychology, I have used my education consistently as a physiologist and a teacher.

Reading

As a 1st grade teacher, I help my students learn how to read. I regularly assess student ability in reading, and develop interventions to help those who are struggling.

Swimming

Though I was only a competitive swimmer for one year, I also swam with a master's swim team for 2 years while actively competing in triathlons for 3 years. As a strength and conditioning coach, I am quite familiar with the mechanics of the sport. I have also taught swimming lessons, lead a swimming class, and coached several individuals participating in triathlons.

Track & Field

I participated in Track & Field through high school, and was among the top 5 in the state of Illinois in the high hurdles and long jump. I accepted a scholarship to Eastern Illinois University for the sport, and later ran for Haiti in the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games in Venezuela. I have coached track at the high school and collegiate level, and have high confidence in myself for this sport.

Violin

I participated in the Aurora Suzuki Violins, and took violin lessons for 5 years. I then switched to the viola and continued lessons for 6 more years. Additionally, I played in an orchestra with both instruments, and string quartets with the viola.
