I have been teaching and tutoring math for 15 years. I have taught math classes including Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, Multivariate and Advanced Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra. I have tutored and taught SAT, ACT, GRE, GED math preparation. I also train math teams for competition.
I believe that all students can learn, and that it is the responsibility of the teacher to present the material in a manner which will optimize student learning. I analyze the student's learning style, ability, interests, and talents in order to individualize instruction to best fit each student's needs. I use pretests to determine student skills, and I strive to never bore students by teaching them what they already know. I take full advantage of lesson time.
It is important to consider student motivation as practice is crucial to success. I listen to student feedback, incorporate student choice, and adjust my lessons as needed. I use technology, games, and hands-on learning to help students connect with the material.
I have had great success with my students improving their ACT and SAT math scores even achieving a perfect score. I have worked with middle school students who have tested into Calculus or beyond as freshmen. I have a good track record with students scoring 5 on the AP Calculus exam. I have trained math teams which have ranked highly at the state level and individuals who have competed nationally.
I have a B.S. in Mathematics, a Masters in Math Education, a Masters Level Certificate in Gifted, and have Illinois Certification for teaching math 6-12. I have four years experience teaching math at the college level and 8 years experience teaching math at middle and high school level. I have been teaching and tutoring for 15 years.
I also have years of experience tutoring and teaching online. Online tutoring is available via email, Skype, or chatroom. It can include answering questions and checking work. It may also include providing resources, explanations, or videos. Lower rates are available for online tutoring. This can be an inexpensive way to support your learning while you study!
