Anybody can learn, I promise. All learning has to begin with a plan tailored to YOU! I like to begin by assessing your learning style & then working with that. Based on how your brain learns best, we will build exercises that make it easy to store lots of information. We will do it in small bites, and before you know it, you will be master of the subject.

I have 2 degrees in natural sciences and one in adult learning. I know the tricks to help you learn.

ADD/ADHD

I was diagnosed as ADD in my 30s. I have since studied and researched many different tried methods of adapting learning and everyday skills to increase success. I have taught and tutored many students (of many ages) who also have ADD. Together we planned and then utilized specialized "tricks" to help learning and social interaction.

Biology

I have a bachelors degree in biology.

Genetics

I have 10 graduate hours in molecular genetics, evolutionary genetics, population genetics as well as undergraduate course work in introductory genetics.

Guitar

I have been playing the guitar for over 35 years. I play classical, steel string and 12 string guitars. I utilize finger picking (both raw & with finger picks), flat picking and strumming methods. I read music and tablature, and chord charts.

MCAT

MCAT is the pre-professional health entrance exam for medical fields which includes content learned in undergraduate course in the following areas: physical science, biology, evolution & genetics, microbiology, physiology/anatomy and both general & organic chemistry content. I have both taken and taught many of these courses. I have at least 16 college credits in those which I do not currently teach. This exam also includes verbal and reasoning skills common to many college entrance exams. My experience as a tutor, college professor and graduate student have afforded me many opportunities to practice and review many different college entrance exams myself.

Microbiology

I have over 18 undergraduate and 20 graduate courses in Microbiology content and have been teaching microbiology at the college level for over 10 years.

Nutrition

Study of how nutrients are utilized by the body, including vitamins, minerals & water. Ingestion, digestion, absorption & elimination of these nutrients are discussed. Cellular metabolism in humans is presented with special attention to how nutrients play a role in metabolism of various cells. Nutrient deficiencies & resulting conditions/diseases are also addressed. All of the B vitains and vitamin C are covered, as well as micro & macrominerals.

Study Skills

Learning information by studying requires moving information into long term memory & being able to retrieve & use it. Various methods can be used for different students, depending on their mode of perception, to move information into long term memory. The key is to find methods (study skills) that are tailored to the student's preference & learning style. I try to help students understand which avenue works best for their brain and then teach them specific ways to study based on that. Being organized is essential, finding more than one way to study, practicing good time management and learning how to take good notes are also essential skills. For some students I recommend they record classes & then make notes later. A student must spread out lots of content to learn over several study sessions by dividing it into smaller bites.

Zoology

I have taken over 20 graduate hours in zoology including: mammalogy, ichthiology, ornithology and invertebrate zoology. I have also taught Introduction to Zoology at the college Sophomore level for over 4 years.
