I love my job- I have worked with University of Iowa student atheletes for the last 7 years and three years before at a local community college teaching ESL with adult learners. I have been trained in several areas- I love the TPR techniques ( Physical response learning) taught be Blaine Ray and CASAS out of California and find them very successful but also read extensively on new techniques and ideas to keep my teaching fresh and up to date.

I look forward to finding something for everyone and can work with a group or one to one depending on what the client wants to learn. I like to think out of the box because no two people think or learn alike. I like to think that humor and a comfortable environment create the best learning space so I try not to be too formal in my approach.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I have taught introduction to anatomy at the college per med and dental school level and for pre nursing at the community college level.

Biology

I will cover AP high school and college level course material in a fun and helpful environment.

ESL/ESOL

I taught ESL and CASAS at the community college level for three years.

Sociology

I have tutored student athletes for 7 years on intro to sociology and am familiar with key concepts and figures in current text book used at college level including vocab and experiments used to learn key points.

Speech

I have taken several neuroscience classes on brain development and children development and learning as well worked one on one with the AEA at the elementary school level with my own child and his lisp. I am familiar with goals and age appropriate mile stones to help children develop self confidence and good study skills to achieve their personal best across the board with good study habits, learning techniques and fun quick tips and tricks to achieve their goals. I think I can help anyone achieve a better result. I can't promise an A but I can help with self confidence and a plan to help make some changes.

Study Skills

I have worked on several techniques including SQR3 and shopping list visualization as study techniques after my years with college students. They are several techniques I use as tools for success at the high school and college level. If you want to learn more, let me know.

Great tutor, competent and simple to reach by phone or email — I did 3 lessons. Kassia was personally involved in every individual lesson. With positive surprise, she did not consider the first meeting as a lesson but as a first contact to organize the work to do. She really improved my spoken English, that was my aim. I strongly advice her as an English teacher. ...
