I have always loved school and learning and still try to find ways to learn something new every day. In elementary school I purposely attended summer school (not only for the juice and cookies); I truly loved books and learning then- I still do. I also enjoyed doing the SRA Reading series as well as taking speed reading classes during study hall forcing myself to read better and faster. After I graduated from high school (1977) I regretted the fact that I had not done better in Math and promised myself I would someday return to school to master these skills. I accomplished this in May 2005. I went on to become the mother of two children and was very active in their K-9th grade classrooms as a parent volunteer/tutor. I worked on a one-on-one basis as well as groups of students in all subjects for many years witnessing a high rate of success (students became confident learners and went on to make the Honor Roll as well as Student of the Month status). I later went to college and obtained a BA degree in elementary education with a middle school endorsement (2001-2005). I have not, however, taken a full-time position as a classroom teacher, but am continually searching for creative ways in which I can utilize my teaching skills. I still tutor; recently I have had the priveledge of working with several special needs students and experienced the joy of watching them "blossom". I have successfully mentored older adult learners, assisted college-age students with ACT/SAT prep courses, homework assistance, as well as organizational and study skills. After the initial evaluation, I study and do research and create a specialized focused program that best suits the individual's needs and learning style. I work closely with and have good on-going communication with parents, students, and classroom teachers. I have an abundance of patience and use a great deal of praise and encouragement, reinforcements, and reading comprehension strategies such as Phonics. I make learning fun, creative, and relevant to the student by using hands-on instruction. I am enthusiastic! I am strongly commited to student success; I have a passion for helping people reach their full potential and believe every one can succeed or I have failed. With God's help, I am able to turn frustration and failure into confidence and success in life.
