My experience in education is quite extensive. I have a Ph.D. in physics, working on modifications of the theory that won the Nobel Prize in 2013. Since acquiring my doctorate, I have spent three and a half years teaching at a small liberal arts college. My specialties were physics for pre-meds and Calculus I. The latter to the point that other professors were following my lead. I have also taught upper level courses, and enjoyed the process.

However, my interests aren't limited to just physics and math. History is a particular hobby of mine, particularly the way technological developments both depend on and affect the society they occur in, often in unexpected ways. I have also tutored for quite some time, covering ages from 7 to 40+ and an enormous variety of subjects.

My preferred tutoring style involves questions and discovery. If you have questions, I'll help you discover the answers (or flat-out tell them to you if necessary). If you don't, I'll ask questions until I build up a picture of your current state of knowledge, and how best to build on it. This means that I don't bore you by covering material you are already bored with, and we can get on with learning cool new things.

I look forward to indulging your curiosity.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a Ph.D. in physics and have been employed as both a physics professor and a math professor. In the course of this, I discovered that frequently students were more likely to have problems with the algebra involved than the concepts, resulting in considerable practice tutoring algebra in the course of my normal work. Also, I have been using algebra daily for 20 years.

Microsoft Excel

I have set up a grading spreadsheet which not only adds labs, homework, and tests in the appropriate percentages, but was able to test whether to drop the lowest test and replace its percentage with the final exam percentage.

Networking (Computer)

I have set up my own home computer networks involving half-a-dozen machines, using both wireless and wired connections. I have also assisted with setting up laptops for the registration system at a convention with thousands of people attending.

Furthermore, I've had to try to explain this to my mother, who proudly admits to not being technically inclined.

Physics

I have a Ph.D. in the subject. My teaching experience includes nine 100-level lab classes and two lecture courses of introductory physics for Pre-Meds, plus more advanced classes.
