I have taught for over six years and have spent the last three tutoring at the University of Notre Dame. While my degree has definitely given me a depth of knowledge about the subjects in which I tutor - History, Language, and Writing Skills - I feel that a good tutor is more than facts. Textbooks are a collection of facts and graphs. The difference between a tutor and a textbook, the reason why tutors are more effective, is the personal connection between a tutor and a student. I believe that every person's life experiences enable them to learn and excel in different ways. It is a tutor's job to tap into that ability and bring it to light, allowing life to facilitate learning and learning to enhance life.
