I have a Bachelor of Arts in Social Service with an emphasis in Human Services, from Ashford University in Clinton Iowa. I enjoy interaction with people and have a long history of working with children in an educational type of setting.
As a high school student, I was a member of the Future Teachers Association. One year I worked with sixth grade students in a small group setting to help improve their spelling skills. The following year, I worked with one student who had severe learning disabilities. I helped him to organize and write out his homework assignments, making sure that he understood each assignment.
As an adult, I have been involved with my church's Children's Ministry for more than 30 years, and have also been trained as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, volunteering in the 7th Judicial District of Iowa. As a CASA, I serve as an extra set of eyes and ears to the Juvenile Courts who are responsible to keep children safe, who are at risk of neglect and abuse. This requires me to work with DHS and various agencies and services within the community to provide stability and family reunification efforts when necessary.
