I have been tutoring for six years, with experience tutoring grades 5 through college.
In high school, I tutored other students in AP biology, U.S. history, government and English. These ranged from one on one tutoring sessions to group study, normally based off of class textbooks and professional study guide books.

In college, I worked for a year in an after school tutoring program for elementary students, focusing on science and social studies. I also worked for a year tutoring high school students in biology and chemistry. I tutored Introductory Psychology, Anthropology and Cultural Anthropology for my last two years in college.

I worked for two summers as an academic summer camp counselor, working with children ages 7 through 18. I am comfortable working with all ages.

I currently hold an honors Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Anthropology and work as a graduate teaching assistant for introductory classes. I'm currently a graduate student and passed in the 90th percentile or higher on the verbal and written sections of the revised GRE and higher than the 80th percentile on the quantitative section of the revised GRE. While I have not specifically tutored in the GRE, I have helped friends create study guides for the exam.

My tutoring style is very hands-on, letting the students learn how to form new study habits. I have taught students how to be active learners in their classrooms by teaching note-taking skills and study skills.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of human culture and belief systems. I have a B.A in Anthropology and am pursuing my MA in Anthropology. Previous tutoring experience in this subject includes introduction to anthropology, introduction to cultural anthropology and biological anthropology. I can tutor in a wide range of anthropology subjects, including introductory archaeology to advanced cultural and biological anthropology classes. I have experience being a TA in human evolutionary history and physical anthropology. Tutoring could include helping study for an exam, how to set up anthropology presentations and help with editing essays.

GRE

GRE preparation focuses on the Verbal, Writing and Quantitative portions of the GRE exam. I can help with general study skills related to the GRE, as well as test taking skills. Regular tutoring for the GRE should begin about a month before the exam, especially with the vocabulary section.

Psychology

Experience in tutoring college level introduction to psychology classes. Can tutor in basic psychology concepts, such as social and developmental theories as well as more complex subjects surrounding abnormal psychology and personality theories.

Study Skills

Study skills lesson would focus on how to organize class notes and also how to create a study guide for a given test, mainly social science and history exams.
Study skills would focus on the creation of flash cards, typed or written study guides, and practice exams/essays.
I can also teach how to create a study plan, focusing on areas that the individual has problems with first and working towards the areas that the individual considers easier to understand. Study plans should be started about a week before a normal exam and a week and a half to two weeks before a final.
