I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My wife and I came to Hawai‘i on our honeymoon in 2001 & moved here in 2002. I have been working as a mathematics tutor for more than ten years. I really enjoy it. The world of math contains some really cool things, the Mandelbrot set, Klein bottles, and Hilbert's hotel to name just a few. I like to introduce students to these and other similar, fun topics while tying them to their current classroom material. Understanding where one can go with math makes it much easier, even if we never venture there.
In Hawaii, many students are lost in their current course because they did not do well in a previous course (bad teacher, lack of enthusiasm, etc.). By being aware of that I can quickly help a student fill in the missing gaps in their knowledge and get back on track.
I can help students prepare for exams including PSAT, SAT, ACT, ASVAB, & GRE.
I worked with students as young as second grade and at the other end of the age spectrum, I have worked with a few grandparents. I can work with you, too! Aloha,

In order for me to tutor students together they generally need to be taking the same course. Two students tutored together each receive a 25% discount. Three students together receive 1/3 off.
Thad has done a great job coaching and mentoring me through business statistics. He is patient and understands how to explain the work in a way that is easy to understand. He has patience and a sense of humor that makes completing the work enjoyable. I would recommend Thad to anyone who is tackling a math course of any type. He is great tutor!
Thad is an amazing instructor. He explains the problems in ways that makes it easier to understand. He also has a lot of availability which I really like.
I'm a 23 year military service member and combat vet. Mathematics is not my strongest subject and I've been working on my BS in Computer Information Systems for some time. When Discrete Math came up as my next course I knew I'd need help. Thad was very patient, professional and the guy knows his stuff. He does a excellent job at giving you great examples and analogies to help you grasp the concepts.
We are very happy with the tutoring sessions. We started during the Summer just as a "Summer School" requirement, but have decided to keep having the tutoring throughout the school year. My son is currently in 8th grade and he is actually enjoying Math class at school because he is not "lost" anymore. My son says that "Mr. Thad is patient and explains things in a very understandable way."
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have helped several students prepare for the ASVAB. I am a math tutor, so generally students come to me to get help with the math-related portions, but I have helped students with all sections. We will use a formula of looking at several practice tests and studying what techniques work for answering entire families of questions. I can help you improve your score!
I took several discrete math courses in college (I have a B.S. in Mathematics/Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University). Topics like logic, logical operators, and combinatorics are some of my favorite topics to study and tutor students in. I have tutored several students who were taking discrete math courses and was able to help each one of them!
I took several linear algebra courses in college. (I have a degree in Mathematics/Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.) I am qualified to tutor this subject. I have been tutoring since 2003 and I like working with students of all ages. I am patient and understanding. Linear algebra, logic, and other "non-mathematical" math topics are my favorites!
