Science in general, and geology specifically, have always been my main interests, both as a hobby and profession. Areas of geology I'm best suited to tutor include general earth science, college-level introductory, historical, environmental, mineralogy, petrology, paleontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural. I can tutor other areas of geology on a case-by-case basis.
I'm available to tutor students at academic levels ranging from middle school through graduate. I can also advise on improving your studying, test-taking, and writing skills, and in preparing for various geology career options.
A major challenge to many geology students is identifying rock and mineral specimens in lab courses. I understand the difficulties involved, and have had good success in tutoring in this area, due in part to my years of rock and mineral collecting.
My educational background includes graduating with Bachelors and Masters degrees in geology, with minors in geography and geochemistry. In college, I was a geology tutor and teaching assistant. I received a scholarship and financial grant for my research, and was inducted into Sigma Gamma Epsilon earth science honor society.
I've practiced geology professionally for about thirty years in the environmental and energy fields, and have worked on many projects, large and small. I'm experienced in mentoring, and in the preparation and presentation of training courses on geology and related topics, including industrial health and safety, and government requirements. I'm a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists, and am a Registered Professional Geologist in Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky.
