I have been teaching Social Studies for 23 years at the secondary level. I have a Masters Degree and certification in Advanced Placement Political Science. I have traveled around the world and teach World Geography.

I have tutored Economics, political Science, reading and writing to high school students. I believe that any student can learn and that patience and fair expectations are important from both parties in the tutoring process. I try to address where a student's skills are at the start of the tutoring relationship and grow from there.

ADD/ADHD

As a veteran teacher, I have taught students with a variety of special needs. I have taught in in an IRR environment, as well as when they were pulled out in small group settings. As a newly certified Georgia teacher, I was required to take a Special Needs class for students. I have also worked with students who have profound physical special needs. Some special needs students, particularly those with some Asperger's, need additional, more rapidly presented work. Others require special patience and differentiated lessons.

Aspergers

I have taught school for 22 years in both middle and high school grades. In the past decade, I have taught students with special needs, including very bright students with Aspergers. I understand the needs of these students who are on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum and I realize that they sometimes have socialization skills in the classroom. They need stimulation beyond most students and while academically successful, have differing methodologies to achieve that success.

Criminal Justice

I believe that while teaching Political Science for 23 years, that I incorporated a substantial portion of criminal justice issues. I believe that my knowledge of the law and the U. S. Constitution, give me the foundation to both understand and teach criminal justice.

Dyslexia

I have taught school for over 20 years and have had to differentiate lessons for students of all abilities. I have found common threads with diagnosed and non-diagnosed dyslexic students and have tutored them in the past. I know that most students with this background work best with visual and auditory learning styles.

Economics

I have taught economics for 22 years and am an award winning teacher. My students always had high EOCT scores in economics and I understand the demands of of what can be an arcane subject.

English

I have a Masters degree and 22 years of teaching experience. I have read and graded thousands of papers and I have also published articles in Time Magazine, the Houston Chronicle and the Sandy Springs Neighbor newspapers.

Geography

I am certified in broad field Social Studies for grades 6-12. In that context, I have taught Geography for many years. I have also traveled around the world, thereby enriching my experience as a Geography teacher.

Government & Politics

I have taught Government and Politics for over 20 years, to students of all proficiency levels. I have a Master's degree and I am a fellow in an adjunct organization of the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to my political science training, I also have considerable hands-on experience in that area.

Grammar

As an experienced teacher in grades 6-12, I have always been fastidious about grammar and structure in all written submissions. I believe that my post-graduate work enhanced my grammar and writing skills. I have always been an avid reader and I believe that proper grammar usage is critical to the comprehension and lucidity of work.

Public Speaking

I have been a teacher for over 20 years and I was also a public official in the office of a big city mayor. I often gave speeches to as many as 1,500 people. I believe that in addition to having taken several public speaking classes in college, I have the necessary skills to tutor those who need public speaking help.

SAT Reading

I am an experienced Social Studies teacher and in the context of that, students have to read a variety of source materials. Comprehension and clarity are important tools for successful completion of that source material and I believe I have the tools to assist someone do that for their SAT test.

SAT Writing

As an educator for 22 years, particularly in high school, I have graded thousands of essays. I understand the particulars that create an intelligent, cohesive, coherent and well designed essay. I have a Masters degree and in the achievement of that goal, I spent a substantial part of that time writing essays and theses, thereby enhancing my essay skills. I have a large vocabulary and believe that I can encourage students to enrich theirs, thereby improving their writing skills.

Social Studies

I believe that I am equipped to teach Social Studies for several reasons. I have Georgia, D. C. and Texas Social Studies certifications for grades 6-12 and have taught virtually all of the Social Studies disciplines for over 20 years. I believe that I understand the need for students to be actively engaged in the learning process.

Special Needs

During my 23 years in the classroom, I have taught many students with a wide range of special needs. Some of those issues have been cognitive and others physical. Each requires IEP's and the willingness and ability to adapt lessons for the specific needs of the student.

Spelling

As a very experienced teacher, I am very much aware of how important spelling is to the cohesion and readability of a student's work. In a generation of Spell Check, the discipline of accurate spelling often takes a back seat. I have graded thousands of papers and believe that I am more than equipped to assist students to enhance their spelling skill. I would be delighted to help you with the efforts.

Study Skills

I have taught school for 23 years and have worked with students at both the middle grades and high school levels. I regularly work with them to organize the materials, their binders, their daily study habits and the skill sets needed to write papers and take tests.

Writing

Thank you for the opportunity to apprise you about my writing credentials.

I have a Master's degree and have taught Social Studies and writing skills for over 20 years. I have graded untold numbers of research and expository papers and have written many in the course of matriculating through my undergraduate and graduate degrees.
