I have been teaching for over 25 years in public school, private school, home school, and college. I have been very actively tutoring in the last 10 years. I can help students in most elementary and middle grade subjects, including Algebra. I home schooled my three children for most their pre-college education. For reading, I use a phonics based approach with which I taught my own children to read, and I can include internet sources and games.

I love to work with students of all ages, and I use a positive, encouraging approach. I do not yell at or belittle any student. That's not my style. I often employ a questioning method of instruction. I assist the student in discovering the concepts or answers for themselves as much as possible, although at time demonstration and or explanation is certainly necessary! I use observation, questions, and some testing determine where instruction and remediation should begin.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a degree in Elementary Education from UGA. I have taught home school, public school, and private school. I have also tutored, mostly in math, reading , or language arts. I am able to tutor most elementary subjects, however.
I enjoy working with children and employ a positive, encouraging approach. I use a variety of materials and resources, including internet-based games and lessons. I listen to and observe my students in order to develop and provide appropriate instruction.

Phonics

I taught my own children to read using a phonics-based approach called The Writing Road to Reading. While a few "sight words" are helpful to know, the student MUST have phonetic skills to decode new words.
