To my potential students, parents and professional clients,

Let me provide you with a short description of my relevant experience, tutoring approach, and academic and professional background germane to my work in the field of language teaching, adult and youth education, and cultural training in Latin America. First of all, I am native fluent in both English and Spanish. I was born in the U.S. and moved to South America in my late teens. I have been extensively engaged in adult, youth and child education in the context of my professional career in international development and education. I directed “School of the Nations,” a bi-lingual (K-12) international school in Brazil.

Prior to that, I directed and taught for ten years at “One World Learning Institute,” an ESL multilevel language academy in Peru. In recent years, I have designed and delivered training programs for teachers (TOT) and professional trainers in the art and skills of empowering dynamic learning environments. My strongest abilities are centered in interpersonal communication, one-on-one and small group tutoring of Spanish and English, assessing student/client capabilities (establishing base-lines and bench marking), curricula design (personalized lesson plans), and building capacity for excellence and application of knowledge and skills acquired during tutoring.

My advanced study in the U.S. and professional career in Latin America have provided me with work opportunities and long-term residence in numerous Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. I have assembled a great deal of know-how in integrating language and culture into successfully designed learning strategies. The latter have enhanced individual and team learning and measurably improved student/client performance in all four language skills. I have a bachelor's degree in Business and Organizational Behavior and a master's degree in Intercultural Management and Training from the U.S. I am co-founder and program director of a private non-profit University in Bolivia.

I am currently on sabbatical and have returned to the U.S from my overseas’ occupations in recent years as program consultant and country director for UN Agencies, World Bank, US Government aid agencies, NGOs, Universities, and private businesses in Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East. My goal within the next few months and for 2015 is to provide intensive and extensive tutoring in the greater Atlanta area. I look forward to serving your Spanish and ESL/EFL tutoring needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I was born in the U.S. and I have lived and worked most of my life in the Americas (North, Central and South). I finished high school and pursued my tertiary education in the U.S. However, my professional practice has been primarily developed in Latin America with recent consulting services extending to Africa and the Middle East.

I am native fluent in both English and Spanish with good mastery of Portuguese. I am passionate about learning languages and even more so about teaching them - especially tutoring individuals and small groups. I have successfully taught basic to advanced ESL/EFL using a wide variety of innovative and current audio-visual tools and text books as well as engaging intermediate and advanced students and clients in free-lance conversations. I am systematic and thorough in my approach and I have taught English to all age groups. I have specialized in designing and managing innovative technologies that empower and improve individual and team performance in language development and in organizational behavior.

My comprehensive understanding of English and Spanish and my keen know-how of language teaching and tutoring, is a strength I have developed over the past four decades of multilingual and intercultural immersion. Professionally, my coaching and mentoring abilities for individuals and groups, have served me well to fine-tune my language tutoring skills.

Most of my career has been focused on language, culture, and social development. In Peru for example, I was the founding director of a highly successful ESL Institute with an average annual student body of 600. I directed and taught ESL there for a decade. In Bolivia, I co-founded a private not-for-profit university where I currently provide senior advisory services. We have over 3,000 students with a faculty and support staff of over 100.

I am currently in the process of transitioning from the deeper South (Bolivia) to the North (Georgia). My wife and I have made a decision to move to Atlanta to be close to our son who studies at GSU. My goal is to immediately establish myself as a seasoned tutor in ESL/EFL and Spanish for the greater Atlanta area; to apply my extensive field teaching expertise and intercultural knowledge; to deliver high quality language tutoring.

I hold a Master's degree in Intercultural Management and Training, with a concentration in Organizational Learning. I am easy to talk to and I listen very well. I am available for tutoring students of all levels and ages and clients of diverse professional sectors that require ESL/EFL and Spanish language strengthening and mastery.

Spanish

I am an American who has lived in Central and South America for nearly four decades. I am currently in the process of resettling in the U.S. I am profoundly fluent in Spanish. I use Spanish daily and extensively in my work and at home in speaking, reading and writing.

The advantage I offer to non-Spanish speakers who are of English speaking backgrounds is the ability I have mastered to help you see and understand what you are learning from a bilingual and cultural perspective. There is a lot of exciting logic that goes into language learning and I understand the differences and similarities of Spanish and English. We'll have a great time with verbs and their genders, idioms, pronouns, false cognates and cultural anecdotes. As an American with a keen sense of humor and who has mastered Spanish, I can assure you that your learning process with me as your tutor will be one of your best experiences in language learning ever. I promise it!
