As a M.A. student, I was the instructor of record for all levels of elementary and intermediate German at the university level as well as a tutor in the language lab. Teaching classes of 25+ students and working with students during office hours and in the language lab, I have experience in creating lesson plans and developing a teaching style designed to accommodate students' various learning styles. I like to create a variety of situations that allow students to develop their understanding while practicing written and spoken German. I try to use techniques that blend vocabulary, grammar and cultural information into interactive activities while maintaining a challenging level to push students farther in their study of the German language and German-speaking culture.
My own study of German began with the very first introductory class, which grew into a passion. Having experienced the pleasures and pitfalls of learning a language from the beginning, I am particularly suited to anticipate problems of the non-native speaker. As an instructor, my teaching style has benefited from my time spent working with my students and colleagues and both have been valuable resources for gaining the insight and techniques needed to teach a foreign language. As a tutor, I do my best to tailor instruction to the needs and preferences of the student and over time I've collected various resources I've found to be helpful in all aspects of the language learning process and I'm constantly on the lookout for more.
