Hello, I specialize in reading comprehension, writing and grammar from the grade school level all the way through college with a special emphasis on teaching students how to create well-structured essays and reports. I am particularly adept at teaching students how to structure paragraphs by varying sentence length and by developing a sense of rhythm through careful word choice that enhances the clarity and readability of an academic essay. I take delight in teaching these methods to others, especially to young students preparing for college. It would be an honor to show your son or daughter how to construct the perfect essay, book report, or college admissions essay. In addition, I like to include an expanded review of how to use reference materials and academic databases for research on virtually any topic.
The children of immigrants are especially welcome.
My teaching method is quite simple; I teach to the student’s strength. For example, a student proficient in math or science will understand intuitively that argumentative writing is like a mathematical formula except that words are used instead of numbers. A student proficient in the arts will understand that essay writing is a visual presentation utilizing words to represent graphic concepts. A music student will grasp the idea of words as lyrics, and so forth. I do not believe in a rigid approach to teaching. If a teacher makes a subject interesting and relevant by providing examples from the real world then students will respond positively and will want to learn more. We all remember that special teacher in school who made learning fun and filled us with confidence. I try my best to be that guy.
