I have been a story teller since I could talk. My childhood role as teacher when we played school became a reality when I chose to attend Mercer University, majoring in English and minoring in psychology.
With that degree I became a language arts teacher for two years, teaching reading, grammar, composition, and literature to seventh and eighth grade students. When Counseling attracted me, I earned an M ED in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Georgia. I worked as a middle school counselor the year before I married. My husband and I moved to Boston for a year. That year I taught sixth grade.
Returning to Georgia with a husband in graduate school at Georgia Tech, I finished my own degree while working as a high school counselor.
My husband's job search sent us to Mexico, Missouri, where I taught third grade and became a mother. For the mama part I took a few years to stay home with my child and play homemaker. I caught up with the reading I didn't have time to do while teaching and made baby clothes.
When we decided to return to Georgia to be near family, I got a teaching job and allowed my husband to start a photography studio. For seven years I served as department chair and taught language arts. I helped in the photography studio, assisted with the wedding photography, and took graduate classes.
After fifteen years working in education I retired and spent more time at the studio. During that time I began telling stories on paper. I did get back to that first statement.
I've been writing novels and editing for friends. Mac computers won me over and I learned to use one.
I taught two classes in creative writing for home schooled students and parents and did some tutoring.
I now proof materials for an online writing organization and edit for Gilded Dragonfly Books.
I love teaching, whether as a critique partner or contest judge or an editor. I need to mark errors and I love to explain how to fix them.
My daughter is now 40. I thought I'd throw that in.
My teaching methods depend on the student's needs. While I will help with homework and teach concepts, I don't do the student's homework. I can use text materials the student needs and or create materials needed.
