Welcome to my profile. I have had a wide range of experiences in teaching, mostly overseas. I taught English as a Second Language in Bogota, Colombia, in 1997-9, using the curriculum that the students provided. I also had the opportunity to tutor two young children in English while in Montevideo. I have also taught beginning Spanish in a Pre-K school here in the US in 2009. One of the most memorable times was when I taught Colombian businessmen the basic concepts of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in English. I was learning right along side with my students how the Chicago Mercantile Exchange began. In teaching English as a second language, I use a lot of repetition to teach vocalizations and enunciation. I am interested in the motivation of the student and would strive to encourage your love of learning and knowledge.
I have also taught Reading in English in Uruguay. In both languages, it was beginning reading that I tutored. I love reading because it seems to open up worlds to the imagination. As a homeschooling parent, I come alongside the curriculum and help my student understand the text, what is the desired results, and how to apply it in the lesson. Since my homeschooler is now in high school, she is self-motivated and I have some free time to dedicate to tutoring others. As a graduate from Western Baptist College with a BS degree in Liberal Arts, having taken all the elementary education courses, I believe I can encourage, motivate, and add insight into different lessons. I believe that a teacher is a facilitator of knowledge. As such, your growth in learning is my goal.
Do not let my looks fool you! I am not winking at anyone; I was in a car accident as a baby and modern medicine can only do so much.
