As an international student from Trinidad and Tobago I have been presented with the opportunity to be a French teaching assistant at the university level. This experience has pushed me to continuously reflect on my teaching methods in an effort to effectively reach my students. Moreover, as Language is ever-evolving, I must also change my teaching methods in order to keep up with the ‘times’ in an effort to present coursework that is exciting and educational at the same time. This helps to prevent the passive learning/boring teaching of the French language.
As a Teaching Assistant at University of Cincinnati, I taught Basic French classes to undergraduate and graduate students. Preparation for teaching includes developing daily lesson plans, presenting lessons with material that aim to educate and engage students while maintaining the enjoyable aspect of learning a foreign language, which is not limited to the text book. Other means of teaching French that my students find enjoyable are through songs, videos and fun games.
