I just recently moved to the Stockbridge/McDonough area for work as a mechanical design engineer. I work full-time, but I love teaching and am always looking for opportunities to help others. I have been tutoring off and on since graduating 2 years ago. I've tutored a wide range of math from fifth grade basics to integral calculus and everything from entry level physics to engineering physics. I'm also very comfortable with programming and other science subjects.

My tutoring methods are pretty varied. I started tutoring as a volunteer at a women's shelter. Many of my students there had large gaps in there studies, and as such, I often had to tailor the lessons to build off of the skills that they did have. Tutoring through Wyzant has made me comfortable teaching an even broader spectrum of students. I'm now a very capable tutor who can work with a wide range of ages, experience levels, and settings.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your goals!!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I'm more experienced tutoring Algebra 1 than any other subject, and can give students a very clear explanations of the rules of algebra. Often times once the student understands the operations and the symmetry of equations algebra is a breeze.

Algebra 2

I'm very experienced and comfortable teaching algebra. It can sometimes be a confusing subject, but with firm knowledge of the algebraic rules, any problem can be simplified.

Calculus

I was lucky to have a fantastic math teacher in high school who, while very strict, explained calculus in a very clear manner. As such, I have a very strong basis of calculus concepts, as well as advanced application concepts from my degree.

Elementary Math

I've tutored elementary math as a volunteer GED tutor multiple times. I am very comfortable explaining number lines, fractions, decimals, and arithmetic. Elementary math is the precursor to all other math, and, as such, make a point to insure full understanding.

Geometry

I'm very comfortable teaching geometry. I've used it throughout my education and find it to be an essential tool in more complex math classes. A firm grasp on coordinate systems and geometry helps immensely with 3-dimensional visualization.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering was the focus of the majority of my undergraduate degree. While I would never say I'm an expert at teaching it, I have extensive knowledge and skills. I'm also Engineering In Training certified.

Microsoft Excel

This program is a life saver for simple data manipulation, graphs, and basic programming. I have used this program over and over again for homework, presentations, and personal budgets.

Microsoft PowerPoint

It is an essential tool for any field of study but also very easy to misuse. I've used it throughout my education and am well versed in both its helpful functions and shortcomings.

Physics

Physics has always held a special place in my heart. As an engineer, it was a core subject in the majority of my classes, from statics, to dynamics, to material science, to fluid dynamics, and even to robotics. It is the basis for all the other sciences and thus holds great Joules/Second!!
