My name is Nedra and I am very excited to start my tutoring venture. This will be my first experience working as a private tutor and I thankful for the opportunity. I love children and I have been around them for most of my life. It all began while volunteering at my parent's daycare during the summer months as a teen. While volunteering, I received the initial experience of being around young children in an educational environment. I've also worked in a Georgia Pre-K environment and this experience helped me to understand that children learn at different paces and to be patient with them, whether it be socially or educationally.
I am currently employed with Clayton County Public Schools as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional and I have been there for two years, March 1st. I assist the lead teacher with whole group and small group instruction each day in the areas of reading and language arts, science, and social studies. I hold an engineering degree as well, which has given me the opportunity to become not only well versed in math, but also reading and writing. I hold a Georgia Paraprofessional License and I just love working with children in an educational environment.
Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure of working with children from multiple culture and economic backgrounds and this has helped me to learn to meet children at the level they are on in each subject area, such as providing differential instructions (i.e. using manipulatives for counting in mathematics and using reading materials for beginning, medial and advanced level readers). If I am given the opportunity to work with your child, I will do my best to provide quality instruction and guidance, just as I would for my own students.

My experience working with young students in phonics include, the areas of letter sounds, blending and segmentation. I introduce the basic sound of each letter to students and practice by repetition until the students grasp the sound of each letter. I also use picture cards to help students connect the letter sound with the beginning sounds of each picture. With blending, I help children connect all the letter sounds to make one word (i.e., b-e-t, this is the word bet). With segmentation I help students to use each letter sound to say a word, which is very similar to blending (i.e., /y/ /a/ /k/, this is the word yak). Overall these methods are used to help students learn to spell, read, and write words.
