Hello! My name is Rebecca and I am an English student at Georgia State University. I have been passionate about English since elementary school, and I would love to help other students flourish in the subject. In my free time, I write poetry and short stories. I love to read, especially fiction novels and historical fiction. My main focus in tutoring is English with a focus on writing and reading. I am knowledgeable about the subject and currently have a 3.8 English GPA in college. I am willing to tutor students of any age! I tutored students throughout high school and worked as the editor of a literary magazine. In college, I have tutored my fellow students as well as worked with them on editing their papers. Papers edited by me have generally received grades between A and A+. I am patient, passionate about English, and constantly seeking new and innovative ways to help students learn and stay engaged with the subject material.
For the summer, I am available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with varied hours.
I tutored my fellow students throughout high school on explication, literature analysis, and writing. In college, I have helped several students with editing and formatting papers as well as analysis of articles and texts.
I have helped friends with anxiety overcome their fear of public speaking by helping them perfect their speech, as well as providing tips for increased confidence. I have rehearsed speeches with other students several times. I took a class on public speaking in college that gave me insight into how speeches should be written/formatted, as well as tips for projecting and speaking confidently in public.
In the past I have been part of programs that involved reading to and working with elementary school students. I have also worked with a 5 year old student on his reading for a year now as he prepared to enter kindergarten.
Throughout high school, I helped to tutor other students in an effort to increase their study skills. I have worked with the Office of Disability Services at my university in order to devise better study skills for myself, and I am willing and capable to share these skills with any students I tutor. These skills range from a narrowed down study schedule to a mixture of working and break periods in order to keep a student focused.
