I am available for elementary, middle, high school, and college math. I also do full SAT-ACT prep, including verbal and writing. For college, I can help with college Algebra, Pre-calculus, Calc I, and math modeling. I have 9 years classroom teaching experience, and worked for 1 year as a full time private tutor. I have an undergraduate degree from University of Georgia and a Master’s from Piedmont College. My master’s is in math education.

I love to find creative and interesting ways to present new and challenging topics to students, and see their confidence build as they gain understanding of the subject, and become proud of what they can accomplish their goals. I understand that each student needs a program just for them, and I work hard to identify how each child learns and reach each and every student I work with, no matter what their challenges may be. I have a genuine passion for teaching, and truly love what I do!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have years of experience working with students of all types, including ADD/ADHD. I have worked in classroom settings and worked privately with students that struggle with ADD/ADHD. Each student learns differently, and every teacher must adjust his/her style to fit the students' needs. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and understand the struggles these children may have with learning. Growing up, I learned to adjust study habits and learning methods so I could be successful through school and college.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have several years of experience working with elementary age students in all subjects. I have worked in various tutoring facilities doing private and small group tutoring. I have hosted summer camps for math and writing as well. I am committed to making learning interesting, exciting, and a success for children. My Master's thesis was over Creativity in the classroom, so I am excited to continue to learn new ways to keep students interested. Teaching elementary grades requires extensive experience, and knowledge of how children learn, making use of real life situations for application, adjusting to different styles of learners as children work to develop the knowledge necessary to move into middle and upper grades.

Teaching elementary math requires extensive knowledge in basic math skills, fractions, perimeter, area, decimals, beginning algebra skills, etc. I have several years experience working with young children to develop their math basics, and from teaching high school, I also know the skills they will need to succeed as they get older. It is important to make learning fun and interesting for young children, so they remain enthusiastic. Incorporating hands on learning is a must!

Study Skills

As a teacher, one of my main focuses was to improve students' study skills. I have made and utilized graphic organizers, agendas, guided notes, etc. to improve study skills. I have 8 years of experience working with students to improve their study skills.

A good study skills program should include organizational skills, time management, note taking skills, and reading skills. Students should have an agenda that is filled out each day, and a timeline for each and every project due. Students should learn to utilize graphic organizers of various types for various subjects. Study skills programs should incorporate current text books and assignments and track progress during school.
