I have taught language arts and high school English for seven years, and two of those years were spent in a high school. It is my belief that each student has the ability to reach his or her fullest potential. This vision will lead to a closing of the achievement gap among the students and prepare them for whatever may come.
My teaching experiences have allowed me to work with students from a variety of backgrounds. I believe in allowing children to be the owner of their educational experience. I hold a gifted endorsement and pride myself on using what I have learned to create unique and challenging lessons.
My last teaching position was as a seventh grade language arts teacher. I worked with a group of students who had very diverse learning styles and needs. My goal was to ensure each student in the class would be given the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential. Through my experience in the classroom, I have gained the ability to modify my lessons and provide accommodations for all of my students, including those that need accelerating to further enhance their educational experience. I have enjoyed introducing several presentation tools - such as PowerPoint, MovieMaker, Voki, and Prezi - that can be utilized by the students to teach their peers about a specific event. This puts the teaching component into the hands of the students, allowing them to become experts in their topic and to help others learn about it.
