I graduated from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, in 2000 with a B.A. in English/Secondary Education. During my four years at Providence, I had numerous experiences in different schools and classrooms. This vast experience truly helped me in my training to become a high school English teacher. I completed my student teaching at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Rhode Island. While there, I taught 10th grade honors and a lower level 10th grade class. I also observed on a daily basis a 12th grade English class.
After graduating from Providence, I accepted a teaching position at Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia, where I taught 10th grade World Literature and 11th grade American Literature for seven years. I taught not only literature but also vocabulary, writing, and grammar. These classes consisted of college prep students and lower level students including several team taught classes.
I left Roswell in 2007 to become a stay-at-home mom. Since leaving teaching, I have stayed active by tutoring students. I have tutored students in all aspects of high school English. I have also tutored a student predominantly in writing and SAT prep.
My students would say I was a tough but fair teacher. My students always knew my expectations and were expected to meet those expectations. They also knew what to expect when they came to my classroom because of my organizational skills. My former students would also say I was approachable and friendly and they always felt comfortable coming to me for extra help.
