Hello, my name is Robert R. and I am a musician in every sense of the word. I started my musical exploration by banging on pots and pans when I was just a toddler but quickly progressed to picking out melodies on piano at age 3 and started private violin lessons when I was 5. I was the kid in school who was always drumming on his desk, and when 6th grade band rolled around I naturally chose percussion (my school did not have a string program). By this point I had progressed quickly on violin and, at age 10, was 5th chair, first violin in the Rome Symphony Orchestra. I continued improving my percussion skills and was selected for Georgia All State Band every year from 7th to 12th grade all the while continuing my violin education and learning new instruments like guitar and bass.
I was selected to attend the Governers Honors Program for jazz guitar when I was 16, which opened up a whole new world in the way I would think and feel music. Since then I have honed my piano skills (which I had neglected until then), and have been playing music in rock bands, orchestras, bluegrass bands, church bands, wedding bands, and about any other kind of band you can think of. All this experience I will put behind teaching you or your child the ins and outs of music.
Many music teachers will focus on melody and neglect rhythm, or focus on playing the notes on the page and neglect feeling and musicality. With me you will find a balance, a well-roundedness to your education that will lend itself to your becoming a musician, not just someone who can play an instrument.
I have been playing drums since I was 11 years old. From ages 12-17 I was selected for Georgia All State Band all 6 years for percussion. I was section leader of my high school drumline in grades 10, 11, and 12. I began teaching percussion at age 16 when I was in 11th grade. I am thoroughly educated in music theory and am more than proficient snare drum (marching and symphonic band), multi-tenor drums, bass drum, mallet instruments, timpani, and all manner of auxiliary percussion.
Music is like breathing to me. I practically emerged from the womb with several instruments in my hand. I have been playing piano since age 3, violin since age 5, percussion since age 11, guitar since age 13, and many other instruments along the way such as bass (both guitar and upright), viola, mandolin, sitar, flute, trumpet (though i will not dare brag on my brass skills) and anything else that makes noise. I was a member of the Rome Symphony Orchestra at age 10, was playing rock and roll gigs at age 14 on both guitar and violin, was selected for All State Band for percussion and All State Orchestra for violin, was selected for Governors Honors Program for guitar, and have been playing several times a week on several instruments with several bands ever since. I currently play electric bass (and fill in on piano and drumset) at Lovejoy Baptist Church, play keyboards (and guitar and fiddle sometimes) with original rock band The Strange, play acoustic guitar and fiddle with several local acts, play in the orchestra for musicals around the area (I've been known to play drumset, mutiple keyboards, violin, and guitar in the same show, some in the same song), play solo violin or piano for weddings and other special events, or in cover bands for such events. I have written songs in many styles, am a self-proclaimed amateur vocalist, and have an extremely wide array of musical influence. Basically music is my life, my calling and I would be more than happy to share what I know with anyone willing to listen.
I have been playing guitar since I was 13 years old. Before I ever picked up a guitar, I was playing violin with the Rome Symphony Orchestra and was well educated in music theory. Guitar came naturally to me and I excelled quickly. I played jazz guitar in the Rome High School gold jazz band and was selected to attend the Georgia Governors Honors Program for jazz guitar. I have been performing around northwest Georgia since 1999 and am well versed in a multitude of styles.
I have been playing piano virtually all of my life. I learned music theory first through violin lessons, then extended my understanding of it as I mastered guitar and percussion. Although I never took piano lessons, I practiced on my own throughout my education for other instruments. I am well educated in piano theory and have been playing professionally around northwest Georgia since 2003.
I have been playing violin since age 5. I played in the Rome Symphony Orchestra at age 10. I was selected for Georgia All State Orchestra and played in the Berry College Chamber Orchestra throughout middle and high school. I started teaching violin myself when I was 16. I have continued to improve over the last 12 years and do not plan on stopping.
