I have a BA in English with a minor in Economics, an MA in English Literature, and a PhD in Modern Humanities with a minor in Classical Greek Literature, all from Florida State University. I have taught over 90 college level Composition classes at universities, 5 years in Virginia, and 1 here in Georgia. In between, I taught TEFL for 1 year in Saudi Arabia, and I taught College Composition for International Students in Bahrain for 2 years. All these appointments were (and are) full time. I have tutored foreign students living in the United States. I also specialize in SAT and GRE Verbal prep, as I received a 720 out of 800 in 1997 on the GRE Verbal (99th percentile).

I make clear to my students that, based on my IQ, I should have barely graduated from college, and yet I have reading fluency in Greek and Latin (which I can also teach) and received my PhD. Hard work and good instruction are the key to success.

I can teach Composition, TEFL, Latin, and Greek, and am happy to point you towards very good, and cheap, homeschooling curricula.

I can send you official transcripts, if needed. I am here to help you as long as you think you need me.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Greek

I took 7 graduate Greek Language and Literature classes at Florida State University with a cumulative 3.67 GPA and can submit official transcripts upon request. I also took 6 undergraduate Latin classes from Patrick Henry College with a cumulative GPA of approximately 3.8. I try to read about an hour of Koine Greek most days from the Bible.

Study Skills

I can teach study skills in English (I am an Assistant Professor of English), TEFL (I taught TEFL in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for three years), and Economics (I had a minor in Economics for my B.A.)

Remarkable results. — Mark is a great teacher. He is focused and clear, asks for particular results, and at the same time is gentle and humorous. He has provided a grammar framework that makes sense. The results he has had are remarkable. His pupil arrived at the first lesson with just a few words of English. Now, a few days later, this pupil is conducting full conversations in English. Mark has not only taught his ...
