I am currently a middle school life science teacher, but I am highly qualified as a math, science, language arts, and social studies teacher for middles grades in both regular and special education. I am conversationally bilingual. I have taught high school physical science and biology. I have also taught GED.
I have tutored students with special needs before and am extremely familiar with IEP procedures and requirements. I have worked extensively with students and families to increase academic independence and confidence, model tips and strategies to help encourage success on standardized tests, and foster social interactions and interpersonal skills.
I believe that the teacher/tutor is important to build the skills the student needs to be successful, but the student needs support from their home as well. An understanding and patient home with a study space that makes the student feel safe to learn and make mistakes must also be established to ensure the student's success. Education doesn't just start with the teacher/tutor, it begins with inquisitive nature of the student. If the student can relate the subject matter to previous knowledge or their own interest, then learning is FUN!
Let's have some fun!
I am certified in special education. A majority of my students have ADD/ADHD. My lessons are interactive and hands-on. I transition frequently to keep my students engaged. I also teach skills to help my students stay on task and aware of triggers that might distract them from learning.

I have worked for Hardee's as a senior manager while in college for 3 years. I have taught my special needs students (community based instruction) to cook for themselves reading directions, measuring, and baking. I know the technical language of cooking, able to compute the math needed to cook/bake, proper food temperatures, storage, and have taken the Wilton cake decorating series.
I have worked for JoAnn's Fabric making displays for their stores. I have 3 sewing machines, 2 serger machines, and an embroidery machine. I know the technical language of sewing and have sponsored the Sewing Club for my middle school for 3 years in the past.

I also teach skills to help my students stay on task and aware of triggers that might distract them from learning.
I am certified in special education (grades K - 12). I differentiate my lessons to meet the needs of my students. I teach them skills they need to "own" their learning. I show them their weaknesses are actually strengths they can use to learn. I show them academic "tricks" to maximize their studying and learning time and make them aware of triggers that might distract them from learning.
