I am currently a middle school life science teacher, but I am highly qualified as a math, science, language arts, and social studies teacher for middles grades in both regular and special education. I am conversationally bilingual. I have taught high school physical science and biology. I have also taught GED.
I have tutored students with special needs before and am extremely familiar with IEP procedures and requirements. I have worked extensively with students and families to increase academic independence and confidence, model tips and strategies to help encourage success on standardized tests, and foster social interactions and interpersonal skills.
I believe that the teacher/tutor is important to build the skills the student needs to be successful, but the student needs support from their home as well. An understanding and patient home with a study space that makes the student feel safe to learn and make mistakes must also be established to ensure the student's success. Education doesn't just start with the teacher/tutor, it begins with inquisitive nature of the student. If the student can relate the subject matter to previous knowledge or their own interest, then learning is FUN!
Let's have some fun!
