I have taught high school mathematics for ten years. My greatest subjects that I have taught are Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. When I tutor, I give a lot of varied examples and I teach students the patterns of working out problems. I also allow them to do problems on their own but I watch them as they go. Helping a student to increase their self-confidence in math is the key to helping them to learn. Once a student gets excited about learning, most of the battle is already won.
