My name is Tolecia and I am DELIGHTED to serve as your tutor in math
! My qualifications as a tutor include a PhD in Polymer Chemistry
, 2 years of academic and industrial research experience, and, most importantly, 3 years as an Instructor of Chemistry at Georgia Perimeter College, Atlanta Metropolitan State College, and Atlanta Technical College. Also, I was employed as a math and science tutor for the Student Athletic Department at the University of Southern Mississippi and the Student Resource Center at Northeast MS Community College as both a graduate and an undergraduate student.
As an accomplished scholar and former student, I know firsthand the hurdles and setbacks that come with learning math and science, mostly due to the fast pace of the course curriculum, the limited time of exposure to new concepts and theories taught in the class, and the seemingly disconnect of the subject matters taught to the textbook problem that you are trying to solve at this moment. You just don't "see" how all of the information you were taught in an hour's time can help you solve the textbook problem assigned to you by your classroom instructor. You know that you can be a successful student, if you only had someone that can help you pinpoint your misunderstanding and give you real solutions for better comprehension so that you can apply them to the problems and test questions assigned. Of course, this is accomplished with a fun and relaxed approach! What good is learning something difficult and new if you can't enjoy yourself during the process? As your tutor, I will work to ease your anxiety and promote your confidence so that you can become a better student as I have already done with a number of students!
My approach to tutoring is not just limited to help with solving homework problems, but includes advice on study habits/tips and resources that help increase your understanding and proficiency in the subject matter, depending on your need. As an instructor, I have observed that a successful student is a resourceful student. In addition, I am always excited to work with study groups! I enjoy working with large groups because I believe that the interaction of peers is just as instrumental to learning as one-on-one instruction, as we are able to engage in healthy dialogue and exchange, giving me more insight on students' needs and providing each student with a different perspective on a subject matter.
Lastly, I would like to say, my motivation for teaching comes from a desire to see everyone better understand the world that they live in and to possess/own their creativity! I believe that anyone with a good bit of knowledge and understanding can go on to create the next big idea that significantly impacts the world in a positive, productive way.
