I tutored for 3 years in a volunteering group while working on my first degree. The tutoring involved teaching subjects like chemistry, physics and algebra. I tutored mainly high school students, but often times, parents of middle school students would hear about the program and request that their child join. So, I also tutored middle school students at times.

I graduated as a chemistry major degree and psychology minor. This means that I not only have the skills to understand complex topics, but I can also breakdown theses concepts into understandable chunks of knowledge so that my students can understand them as well. I have also written a calculus book that teaches calculus in a very conceptual format based on algebraic principles. This is different from the direction that standard calculus books use.

I offer succinct, conceptual math and science lessons. I emphasize the basic principles of math/science subjects that I teach and then use a barrage of problems to reinforce those principles. With a combination of notes, problems, problem analysis and practice, my lessons will lead to thorough understanding of the material.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I've received an A in all of my algebra classes as well as tutored students at the middle school, high school and college level. In most cases, the students improve significantly in their understanding of the material.

I use a practical teaching process that emphasizes conceptual manipulation of equations over memorization. This allows students to make more connections between different topics in algebra.

Algebra 2

I've received an A in all of my algebra classes as well as tutored students at the middle school, high school and college level. In most cases, the students improve significantly in their understanding of the material.

Physics

I received an A in my honors high school physics course as well as my Algebra 1 and 2 courses.

I've used my knowledge of the math and sciences to tutor students at the middle school, high school and college levels. In most cases, the students improve significantly in their understanding of the material.
