Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to teach. My dream to become a teacher began when I earned my BA in Child Development from the California State University, Los Angeles. Since graduating in 2005, I have furthered my education earning a Masters degree in Teaching from Mercer University. I am currently enrolled in their Teacher Leadership program with plans to finish summer 2012.
I have been teaching for 7 years, with experience ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth grade. I am a flexible person with an easy going personality hich I believe is essential to teaching young students. Not everyone learns the same way so it is important to understand the learning styles of the students and accommodate to better serve their needs.
I love arts and crafts ranging from beginner sewing, card stamping, scrap booking, cooking, and baking. I teach my friends simple techniques in all of the above to give them confidence in trying new things while learning a new skill.
I strive to cook meals for friends and family. Due to the many different dietary restraints, I have adapted my cooking to include Mexican, American, some Chinese, and vegan foods. I also experiment and create different pastries including cakes, breads, and cupcakes.
I know my way around the kitchen very well and can adapt recipes to fit the needs of those enjoying the meals.
I am a current educator and hold a P-5 certification through the state of Georgia. This entitles me to teach Pre-K - 5th grade. I have been teacher in all the stated grade levels for 7 years. I am certified to teach all subjects, and I am familiar with the Georgia Standards needed to pass the state test.
I use Microsoft Publisher on a daily basis for work. I use it to create newsletters, flyers, and letters. It is a great program that works in layers to create simple to very complex pages, depending on your need.
Microsoft is similar to Microsoft Word, but the templates make it much easier to use when creating a document.
With my previous experience in teaching both Pre-K and Kindergarten students to read, I am well aware of phonics instruction and activities to promote successful readers. I have a deep understanding of phonics instruction and the guidance needed to turn phonics into reading. I am trained in the Sing, Spell, Read and Write program, which teaches phonics through music. I have 5 years of experience teaching students phonics and helping them become successful readers and writers.
Recently I have started sewing and have successfully completed a quilt, a children's bag, and several purses. Although, I have not been sewing for a long time, I am very well aware about how to use a sewing machine.
