I graduated with a B.A. in early childhood education from the State University of West Georgia and obtained my master’s degree from Nova State University. I have taught for 16 years in prekindergarten, kindergarten and first grade.
I have one child in elementary and one child in middle school. We have lived in Grantville for 10 years and I have enjoyed giving back to my community by volunteering at the local elementary school tutoring students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.
I believe teaching children based on their individual learning styles--whether they are hands-on learners or visual learners. I have discovered that children learn well when they become confident and appreciative of their ability instead of comparing themselves to others’ abilities. I feel all children want to learn but they may not have understood or been given the necessary building block(s) to succeed. My job is to give them the necessary building block(s) to help them be and feel successful. One great benefit of having an individualized teacher is the ability to give immediate feedback to a child and focus on their immediate strengths and weakness.
I strive to make learning fun by playing games or by using other interests the child may have. I enjoy and am passionate about teaching reading and language arts. I work well with struggling students and it’s a goal of mine to make them be and feel successful learners.
