I am a certified teacher who works with at risk children full time. I believe that all children can learn. I work hard to discover ways to help children learn and achieve. I have been teaching for 20 years.

I have a master's degree in middle grade education and am certified from K-8. I have an elementary math add on certification and am currently working on my elementary science add on certification.

I have seven children of my own plus 9 grandchildren. I was a foster parent for 10 years.

All combined, I have a lot of experience to help your child learn and achieve.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have been teaching elementary school children for 20 years. Each year has brought me experience with ADD/ADHD students. I work closely with our ADD/ADHD coordinator to implement strategies tailored to improve performance of each student.

I have raised many children, including foster children, and a large percentage of them have ADD/ADHD. I have sought resources and therapy for children in my own home.

Living with and working with ADD/ADHD children has provided me with a broad range of tools to use.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a teaching certificate from the state of Georgia certifying me to teach grades pre-K through 8th grade.

I have a masters in education from University of West Georgia in middle grades.

I have been teaching elementary school for 20 years.

Elementary Math

I have an add on certification in math. I have taught elementary math for 20 years. I currently co-teach 5th grade math. I have attended two summer sessions of writing the CRCT test questions.

Phonics

I am a certified teacher in grades pre-k - 8. I have been an EIP teacher for 4 years. I work with at risk children in reading. I work closely with the special education and regular teachers to implement strategies to help at risk readers. Many of these strategies are in phonics. Examples of programs that I use are Great Leaps and Ultimate Phonics. I keep data on my students to show progress.

I have discovered some students who use other strategies to read besides phonics and are successful readers.

Reading

I have taught reading in elementary school for 20 years. I have worked with reading recovery programs for 6 years. I am heavily involved in reteaching reading during our county's Maymester which gets the students ready to retake the CRCT.

Special Needs

I have been an EIP teacher in elementary school for 6 years. I have an add on certification in math. I work with special needs children in reading and math. I work closely with the special education teachers to insure that the needs of my students are met. I have learned a lot over the years about teaching special needs children.

Study Skills

I have worked with elementary school students for twenty years. In that time, I have spend a great deal of time teaching study skills along with other subjects.

Nothing but a big THANK YOU to Ms. Alice — Kuga has more confidence now than before and I feel good about it! This was really hard for me to give him. Since I'm not from here (America) and I'm not a native speaker, it was a problem when he had an issue with English grammar or writing. Ms. Alice is always very patient and very positive towards to my son. This is not easy !!! Kuga seems to really like Ms. Alice! Thank you Ms. Alice, we hope ...
