My experience in music dates back to elementary school days and elementary church choirs. I started reading music and learning basic music theory (key signatures, time signatures, rhythmic and melodic notation) by age 10. I was a Governor's Honors Program participant in vocal music - mostly due to my sight-reading and theory abilities in 2002. I easily received a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam in 2003, my senior year. I went on to receive a Music Education undergraduate degree from then Shorter College (now Shorter University). After teaching as a long-term substitute in a Peachtree City middle school's chorus, I entered graduate school and received a Masters degree in Choral Conducting. My studies there included extensive music history courses as well as classical and 20th century music theory courses. I taught the 2010-2011 school year at Lovejoy High School as the choral director. I have also continued pursuing music theory research in the hopes of entering a doctoral program in that field.
I carry a valid Georgia teaching certificate in music, grades P-12. In June 2009, I added math certification for grades 6-12 by way of the GACE.
