I love math and want to share that love and understanding of math with everyone! Out of college, I worked as a software developer in the corporate world for a few years. I then chose to stay at home with my kids. When my kids got older, I decided to go into the education world. I wet my feet by substitute teaching in the Cobb County school district, then became a math teacher at Westridge Christian Academy in Cobb County, which catered to home school students. I was the 7th-12th grade math teacher there from 2008-2013. I taught several different courses there each year including: 7th grade math, PreAlgebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus, Business Math, SAT Math and Math Builders (a course to refresh basic math skills).
It was during my years of teaching that I became extremely passionate about helping each individual student. I enjoy building relationships with each student and often their parents too. So I have chosen to redirect my focus to work solely with students one on one. I am dedicated to helping students learn math and not be afraid of it or think they "can't do it". I love helping students have those "light bulb" moments and I love to see their fears of math turn into confidence in the subject.
I have found a great need for more math understanding in the home school world and therefore work primarily with home school students. If you are a home school parent or student, I can develop and schedule a curriculum based on your individual needs. If needed, I have references from some home school families I have worked with over the past couple of years.
I have 2 children of my own who like to call me "their personal math tutor". They often don't need my help but like to have me looking over their shoulder to build that confidence that they are doing it correctly. I am a strong believer that math is the basis of great logical processing and will help you be successful no matter what career path you choose. I also believe that practice can make perfect when it comes to math. The more you do it, the easier it gets! I can be your guide to becoming that confident math student.
