All of Eric’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Eric’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Autism

I have been a full time employee of the Cobb County School system for three years. I completed coursework for about half of a special education master's degree at Liberty University. I was unable to complete the degree due to financial aid difficulties, but the course work I did complete was directly helpful in my career.

I use a combination of ABA and cognitive teaching methods, depending upon the needs of the student.

Business

I have earned eBay's "Top Rated Seller" status and "Power Seller" on three different occasions. I also own and manage three different rental properties. My personal business model deals with "multiple streams of income." I spent 8 years in retail management, and have self employment experience. My undergraduate degree is in business management.

Elementary (K-6th)

Hi, I am a Paraprofessional at Fitzhugh Lee, part of H.E.A.V.E.N academy in Smyrna GA. I am licensed by the state of Georgia. We teach grades K-12. Our school caters to autistic children and to kids with EBD [Emotional Behavior Disorder]. The EBD students I have taught take the same courses offered in General Education classes, and are required to pass the GA CRCT exams as part of the national testing mandate under NCLB.

I have taught grades 2-5. The subjects I teach are Math, Science, History, and ELA. This makes me uniquely qualified to easily tutor both general education and at-risk students, all with the same expected outcome of academic success!

Microsoft Windows

I was a Sr. Level one help desk supervisor for Georgia-Pacific in Atlanta for 10 years. I have an award for analyst of the year for 2006. I also have an MCP certification, a Comp-Tia A+ certification.

Special Needs

My existing qualifications in autism and Aspergers already provide a foundation for qualification in special needs. To contribute to that qualification, I would add experience in teaching children with CP [Cerebral Palsy] TBI [Traumatic Brain Injury] I have worked with two students, each having one of these conditions. I have also worked with students in the same public school, with PICA, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy.
Please note that I do NOT hold a nursing license, though I HAVE been trained to deal with emergency situations involving diabetes, basic first aid, and seizures.

Study Skills

Study skills should be tailored to the individual student, however, there are some basic study methods to begin a student's search for the best method. A new popular example is mind mapping, which I took a course on at Shorter College, another is the use of acronyms such as FOIL and MDAS or "My dear aunt sally" for the order of operations in mathematics. My old school favorite is to use index cards and practice questions. Often a mix of several of these methods can be best used for learning and memory mastery.
Everyone knows that last minute cramming is usually not the best method. Eating meals, rest, breaks, and exercise are always helpful as well as scheduling. A quiet place to study and sometimes even the use of music while studying can be helpful.
The internet is full of study sites and fun games from which a student can choose from.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
