Hello there! My name is Mike. I have a passion for history and the written word. In addition, I have a passion for helping students see the potential that they have and helping them to access that potential. Let me explain what I mean.

Knowing how to communicate thoughts and ideas in written form is very important. "You only get one chance to make a first impression" is an old saying that applies to how you communicate through the written word. I have years of experience in presenting ideas in a positive and persuasive manner. I will take your book reports, essays and writing assignments and show you how to rewrite them in a style that is crisp and readable.

History is more than "In fourteen ninety-two Columbus sailed the ocean blue." History is the story of how people lived out their lives and how it affected others. I will show you how to become inquisitive about learning not just what happened but why it happened. History does not have to be boring and monotonous. I can show you how history can come alive!

Through various volunteer outlets I have years and years of experience working with high school and middle school students. I am looking forward to meeting you.

American History

History is not supposed to be boring. History is full of drama, excitement, mystery. For the most part, it's the story about what happened before you and I showed up. But it's also the story of why life in this country, the greatest country in history, is like it is.

Vocabulary

A good vocabulary is the meat and potatoes of effective oral communication. It's what will set you apart in an increasingly competitive job market. It's not that hard. Let's get together and I'll show you how!

Grammar

The way you use grammar in your written and oral communications reflects on you just as much as how you dress or comb your hair or brush your hair. "You only get one chance to make a first impression."

My task is to show you how to make good grammar work for you. Good grammar shouldn't be a chore. It should become second nature. Let's get together and I'll show you how!

Microsoft Excel

Excel is one of the most functional and flexible programs available in the office software marketplace. The only limitation to its functionality is the imagination of the user.

It is a very good use of time to become as well acquainted as possible with this very useful tool. I know a lot of "tricks of the trade" that I would like to teach you. Let's get together and I'll show you how!

General Computer

Getting the hang of using a computer can be frustrating and even scary. It can almost drive you crazy! I have years of experience in showing people how to master the basics of using a computer. I am really, really patient. When I teach you a few tricks of the trade you will be able to use your computer, too! Let's get together and I'll show you what I mean!

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is one of the basic tools in the Microsoft Office suite. It is also among the most useful and practical of the MS suite. Knowing the basics of Microsoft Word will help you handle all of those book reports and other school assignments. It's really not that hard! Let's get together and I'll show you how!

Reading

Let's get this straight. There is reading and then there is reading. You can read so that you can recite back to someone what the author said. Then you can read so that you become part of the story and can explain what the author really meant. It's really not that hard. Let's get together and I'll show you how.

Writing

Being able to sit down and put down on paper what you are thinking about is not important -- it is absolutely essential in today's world. It takes a few tricks of the trade. I bet you'll find out it's not really that hard. Let's get together, and I'll show you how!

English

I have considerable experience helping students with study skills. Starting with my own children, I always emphasize having a set time and place to study. I really excel at helping young people work on school projects.
